Classic AirGraver Handpiece Update

The full range of power is now available in a single handpiece that combines the capabilities of the 3/8” and the 5/16” bore models.

Improved and more versatile Classic handpiece

The updated Classic is the same handpiece as its predecessor, but the new bore is easily replaceable with a removable sleeve. The Classic will now come standard with a stainless piston plus an optional second tungsten piston. The tungsten piston is heavier than the original 3/8" piston, and provides the same power range as the previous 3/8" bore handpieces.  The stainless piston provides the same power range as the previous 5/16" bore handpieces.

The new bore sleeve provides for an extra air pocket in the handpiece. This pocket is ported to the rear chamber, providing the following improvements:

ü       The piston changes directions in the rear chamber more gradually, resulting in less vibration, smoother cutting and less noise.

ü       The piston hesitates for a few microseconds in the front chamber following an impact stroke, giving the effect of what is known as a "dead blow". This is what occurs when a hammer hits an anvil and there is no recoil. The impact inertia is transferred through the anvil to the graver with no bounce. The result is less vibration, and more energy transferred to the graver.  Combined with the patent pending tungsten piston it provides what can be termed "Tungsten Dead Blow™".

ü       The patented idle is improved. The idling handpiece can be turned down finer than prior handpieces, and, with the stainless piston, can be turned down so low that it is not felt. The tool will idle with less air (or CO2), as well as more easily maintain an idling state. Small amounts of oil from an older unfiltered air compressor do not affect the idle as much as on prior configurations.

ü       Because of the gradual direction change in the return stroke, and the front stroke dead blow, the new impacts per minute range are as follows:

§         Stainless piston speed range 2,400 - 15,000

§         Tungsten piston speed range 1,500 - 11,000

Retrofitting Classic handpieces

Owners with existing Classic handpieces will be able to return them for an upgrade to the new bore in about one month (approximately mid-September). The cost will be established at that time.

·         If you have a 5/16" Classic handpiece, the new tungsten piston will run in your current bore until you decide to update the handpiece to the removable dead blow bore. It won't run quite as nicely as it will in the new bore, but it will work fine and will provide additional power. Tungsten pistons should be available in about one month as well.

·         If you have a 3/8" Classic handpiece and you would like it updated, it will need to be retrofitted with the new bore before it can run the tungsten piston or the lighter stainless piston.

Prices for the bore update and tungsten piston are listed on the online order form.

PalmControl AirGraver; NO MORE FOOT PEDALS!
A Variable hand pressure activated handle for the AirGravers has been developed, patented and is published at the patent and trademark office.
The legal enforceable claims of the patent protect a hand push pressure activated power tool used in the hand engraving and jewelry fields.  The PalmControl utilizes the palm pressure and grip used traditionally by engravers and jewelers. Learning to engrave with the PalmControl comes naturally since it is not necessary to coordinate the hand and foot.  The hand is more sensitive than the foot and capable of subtle corrections giving improved responsiveness to the tool and work.
